Luca Borsato prefers to call his mother Leontine Ruiters than his father Marco Borsato when something is going on or when something is bothering him. “He sometimes reacts very primitively.”
Although Luca Borsato currently lives in Alkmaar with his father Marco, it is his mother Leontine Ruiters who he calls when something is wrong. He often finds it more comfortable to discuss certain matters with her. “If it’s about something specific, maybe I would call my mother at this point.”
Primitive Marco
Why prefer Leontine? He explains in the podcast 30 Minutes Raw: “Because I don’t live there and I speak less of her, because I simply don’t walk around her aura every day anymore. So then I think: oh, I need mommy for a moment. In that sense.”
He continues: “My father always reacts very primitively, including how he feels about it, and he cannot disguise that. So you immediately get what he thinks. My mother is a little more nuanced about that. She can let a little more come to her and then reason out how she is going to respond to the situation.”
Lovingly
Although Leontine and Marco have separated, they still get along very well. “My parents are very loving towards each other, even when they are not together. My brother and I and my sister and I are very bad close. We see each other every week on Thursday, so they come to Alkmaar to have a nice meal.”
He continues: “My dad will then cook. So then we will really be together again for a while. But there is quite a bit… There is of course still quite a bit of tension in the whole thing.”
Gun factor
Luca hopes that despite his tainted surname he can still look forward to a great career. “We really do our best. We need a bit of that luck, we need a bit of that goodwill factor.”
He concludes: “I also think in the long term that we will ultimately just try to radiate some kind of vision, which should eventually fall into place, I think.”
