Luc Vanderschommen was a fixture under the bar in the highest divisions of football for years. He joined Cercle in 1976 and played there for four seasons. He dropped to the second division with Cercle but was promoted again the following year.
Vanderschommen moved from Cercle, after AA Gent, to KV Kortrijk. He played there for six seasons, until 1987. He ended his playing career at RWDM and SK Ronse. As a trainer he was active at KV Kortrijk, among others, but he was unable to prevent KVK from dropping to the second division in 1998.
Vanderschommen was the regular penalty taker at KVK, among others. As a result, he scored no fewer than 22 goals. No goalkeeper did better.
