LTO will talk to Remkes on Friday, uncertainty about other farmers’ organizations | NOW

On Friday, LTO will talk to Johan Remkes on behalf of part of the agricultural sector, who has to mediate in the nitrogen discussion. It is still unclear which farmers’ organizations will continue the conversation, it turned out on Wednesday evening after hours of consultation in Nijkerk in Gelderland.

The eight farmers’ organizations say that they are “on the same page in terms of content” and are working together. This means that LTO chairman Sjaak van der Tak will enter into a conversation with Remkes on Friday and provide feedback to the groups that have not yet agreed to talk to Remkes.

These groups include Farmers Defense Force (FDF) and Agractie. These organizations then decide for themselves whether they also want to enter into discussions with Remkes or not.

Remkes has been appointed by the cabinet as mediator in the nitrogen dossier. The talks that he will have with, among others, nature and farmers’ organizations should ultimately lead to a solution.

LTO didn’t want to talk to Remkes at first either

LTO (Agricultural and Horticultural Organization of the Netherlands) initially did not want to talk to Remkes, but was persuaded after a phone call from Prime Minister Mark Rutte. That was called “treason” by Mark van den Oever of FDF.

On Wednesday evening, LTO chairman Van der Tak responded and said that there is “more unity than ever” in the agricultural sector.

“We are working together and have no confidence in the consultations directed by the cabinet,” said Kemp, who read a statement drawn up during the meeting after the meeting.

The fact that LTO does participate in those consultations, in which the farmers say they have no confidence, is well coordinated with “all parties”, according to Kemp.

During the three-hour meeting, farmers brought about ten tractors to the hotel where the meeting was held. They heard Kemp’s statement and applauded afterwards.
