LTO demands minister intervention after wolf attack on human

LTO North chairman Dirk Bruins believes that the government should intervene immediately to prevent more incidents with wolves. He visited the sheep farmer in Wapse on Sunday, who had been attacked by a wolf.

Bruins wants to sit down with outgoing minister Van der Wal this week. “It is unacceptable that farmers are not given the necessary protection against predators such as the wolf, which cause considerable damage to livestock and now even endanger people,” he writes in a press release on behalf of the LTO.

‘Political rules must not be at the expense of the safety and well-being of our farmers. This sheep farmer had done everything he could. How the wolf got through the approved wolf grid must be investigated,’ says Bruins.

“It indicates the urgent need for effective wolf management. We are convinced that a balanced approach is possible, but we continue to warn against wolves in densely populated areas. With the exception of a few locations, the Netherlands is unsuitable as a habitat. At national and international level, we will continue to work for a realistic policy on the wolf.’
