LTO after cabinet fall: ‘Uncertainty for farmers’

The fall of the cabinet “means uncertainty for farmers, market gardeners, breeders and growers”. This is what the chairman of farmers’ organization LTO Sjaak van der Tak says in a response. “The already difficult search for prospects for the future continues.”

Van der Tak hopes that a new cabinet will be formed soon “in the interest of all farmers and market gardeners in the Netherlands”. According to him, the provincial elections have already shown “that people attach great value to Dutch agriculture”. Then the BoerBurgerBeweging won a big victory. The LTO chairman expects new elections to “confirm this picture”.

Farmers’ action groups Farmers Defense Force (FDF) and Agractie think it’s good that the cabinet has fallen. “Four years of struggle and now finally: The world is ours!!”, FDF said in a statement.

Agractie states that there has been great commotion about the proposed nitrogen and agricultural policy, “since the start of this cabinet”. “This cabinet has never been able to come up with a supported policy and perspective for the agricultural sector,” said Agractie foreman Bart Kemp. “It is now time for a reset. A new start, a realistic future for farmers, and policy with support!”
