After their break as a musical duo, Nick & Simon no longer seem to be popular with the viewer. Is it their credibility? Are you just tired of it? Bridget Maasland certainly counted on more.
They no longer want to sing together, are ready for a new challenge, but still want to continue with their TV programs. Does it have something to do with the fact that those candy trips for television are particularly lucrative and you spend relatively little time on them? Surely. But does the viewer actually want it? Well, not really.
Nick & Simon flop
Yesterday, the eel partners from Volendam and their tour guide Kees Tol started a new musical travel soap: Nick, Simon & Kees: The Beatles. After the 1 million viewers (22 percent market share) for the Ascension edition of The Passion, only 615 thousand people (13 percent) stuck around for Nick & Simon.
According to Tina Nijkamp, this must be a big disappointment. “Seeing Nick & Simon as a duo is strange so soon after their farewell concerts”, she thinks. “As a viewer you get the idea that this program was recorded a long time ago. Like something that is no more.”
Kees as a pacesetter
As a viewer you feel the discomfort, says Tina. “Kees is very much the central figure and pacesetter. He does very well by the way. But both Nick and Simon mainly communicate with Kees and again (almost) not with each other. Just not right.”
And she wonders whether the choice for The Beatles is a good one. “The Beatles may have been too long ago, only people over 65 were young when the band was hugely popular. Perhaps a series about Queen or Spice Girls, for example, would have attracted more and younger viewers.”
Bridget expected more
Bridget Maasland had expected much more from it. For the ratings section of the BLVD Podcast she bet on 950 thousand viewers. “Slightly under a million, I think, or close to it. A success, for sure. Because they are just really good at this kind of thing. And they are also very credible in that.”
Colleague Rob Goossens even bet on 1.1 million viewers: “And that also has to do with the fact that they come from The Passion. And the NPO 1 viewer is just a bit older. They were even in Blokker when The Beatles performed there. So I think it’s just going to be a really big success.”
The closest was their colleague Annemarie de Kunder, who bet on 400 thousand viewers. Rob: “That’s very little. I don’t think you’re going to win this one, but who knows.”
