Very bummed for Martha Riemsma: Matthijs van Nieuwkerk’s new girlfriend quit her job at the newspaper because she was interested in a career in TV, but now her wheelbarrow is defective.
Martha Riemsma retired last year as boss of De Twentsche Courant Tubantia. Did her new sweetheart Matthijs van Nieuwkerk, who once left as Parool boss to become a TV star, have anything to do with it? Yes. “After eight years I would have said it was good anyway, but the world in which he functions opens up a completely different perspective for me.”
Dream in tatters
Well, Martha’s whole dream is shattered now. Not much is left of the celebrated TV star she hooked: Matthijs now seems to live as a kind of hermit in their farmhouse.
According to Angela de Jong, he is currently having repair talks with the victims of his tyrannical behavior at De Wereld Draait Door. “He just shouldn’t do that, dude. That is all artificial”, responds Johan Derksen Inside today. “Someone else advised him.”
Stubborn
John would never do any of that. “Then I would be so stubborn and never want to be on TV again. Then you have to visit all those people whom he quite rightly scolded once because they didn’t do their job properly. No one in the world calls the hell out on someone who does their job well.”
He continues laughing: “I find it very sad, because Eus has linked Matthijs to that ex-editor-in-chief of Tubantia, that woman with those Buddy Holly glasses. Who thought: through Matthijs I am going to have a great career in the TV world, right?”
String Beans
René van der Gijp screams: “He is now going to grow string beans, hahahahaha!”
Johan: “He is now walking around lost, because he is no longer editor-in-chief, he has nothing at all. I don’t know if she has any talent for TV at all…”
It does bother him a bit. “Look, people are 40, 45 years old and think: yes, TV career, I have a wheelbarrow!”
