Llove is ageless and tears more than a few laughs in sentimental comedy Love, marriages and other disasters that Raiuno broadcasts this evening at 9.15 pm. Directed by director Dennis Dugan, who has also reserved a role in the cast, the film promises to make you spend an evening in the name of lightheartedness in the company of actors who do not need any introduction. Among these are also the Academy Awards Diane Keaton and Jeremy Irons who put themselves at the service of a choral comedy.
“Love, marriages and other disasters”, the plot
The plot of Love, marriages and other disasters it’s all contained in the title. The story follows the events of some people in search of their soul mate linked together by the organization of a wedding, that of the candidate for mayor of Boston and his fiancée. The two, who have opposing ideas about what their wedding should be like, engage the perfectionist Lawrence, celebrity catering organizer played by Jeremy Irons, and the young wedding planner Jessie who portrays Maggie Grace. The clash between the two is inevitable, all the more so because Jessie is known as a “wedding trasher” after becoming the protagonist of a viral video that literally sees her fall on a wedding party that, inevitably, she ruins.
The protagonist couples
There are two main stories on which the sentimental-funny construct of Love, marriages and other disasters. They are those of the two organizers who, despite the fact that they have to do with so many marriages, have not yet found love. Lawrence (Jeremy Irons) gets involved by some friends on a blind date with Sara, a visually impaired woman in whose shoes Diane Keaton playswith which he falls in love. Jessie, on the other hand, is the unconscious “Cinderella” of Captain Ritchie, driver and tour guide, played by Andrew Bachelor who, after meeting her, did not stop looking for her.
A long series of gags
Considering that the director is Dennis Dugan (to be clear the same one who directed Adam Sandler in Grown-up weekend and its sequel and My fake-wife) it is easy to understand that the drift of Love, marriages and other disasters it is not honeyy at all. Just the trailer with Diane Keaton colliding with a table where a pyramid of glasses has been placed, the disastrous parachute jump of Maggie Grace and her boyfriend (who became ex from the beginning of the film), to reveal Dugan’s intentions to give life to an awkwardly upbeat comedy. Which, however, did not find the favor of the public and critics.
“Love, weddings and other disasters”, unlucky film at the box office
Despite the highly respected cast that, in addition to Jeremy Irons and Diane Keaton, includes Maggie Grace (the journalist Althea Szewczyk-Przygocki of Fear the walking dead), Andrew Bachelor and singer Jesse McCartney, Love, marriages and other disasters was not well received. Released in December 2020, it only grossed $ 922,000 before being released digitally. In Italy it was broadcast on SkyUno and tonight, for the first time, it goes on air free.
Diane Keaton and Jeremy Irons, two Academy Awards, and mature love
Born in Los Angeles in 1946, Oscar for Me and Annie by Woody Allen, Diane Keaton is not new to romantic comedies about love in mature age, now also cleared by Hollywood. From Book Club – Anything can happen (which will soon be a sequel set in Italy) in which he flirts with Andy Garcia a Good morning in the morning in which he finds himself in the arms of Harrison Ford. Much less used to comedy is Jeremy Irons, Oscar for The Von Bulow Mystery, who, however, did not hold back by giving himself and giving us an unprecedented role.
