Love Island helped Nick Cave mourn his late son

The British series “Love Island” is trash TV at its finest. The idea: Candidates live together in a villa on Mallorca and have to cope with different tasks. The prize: £50,000 for the person who lasts the longest.

“Love Island” is now in its eighth season. Joining the cast is a certain Luca Bish, who was a friend of Nick Cave’s late son Arthur. The series has now created a friendship between the reality TV participant’s parents and Nick Cave and his wife Susanne.

“In the horrible, chaotic week after Arthur died, Maria (note: mother of Luca) with a tray of lasagna at our door and looked after us,” wrote Nick Cave on his blog. She said hardly anything over the weeks and instead just made tea and prepared food. “She was just there,” says the musician.

“We will never forget her kindness. Even in the first week, when the world seemed shockingly filled with unspeakable and distorting cruelty, Maria reminded us that there is good in the world.”

Lucas’ father Michael also took care of the Cave household. “To this day, Michael delivers fresh fish to our homes and leaves without saying anything. He pretends to bill us, but we know he doesn’t,” Cave wrote. The musician is now rooting for “Love Island” with his wife and hopes that Luca will win.

Two sons died within three years

Arthur Cave died in a car accident in Brighton in 2019 aged 15. He fell off a cliff and died shortly afterwards from his severe injuries. In May of this year, Nick Cave suffered the next stroke of fate. His 31-year-old son, Jethro Lazenby, died shortly after he got out of prison. He is said to have suffered from schizophrenia.
