Louisa (73) and Willy (75) reopen their village café: “We serve pints for 2 euros. We shouldn’t do it for the money, our pension continues” | Scherpenheuvel-Zichem

One village café after another closes its doors, but in Schoonderbuken in Flemish Brabant they are going directly against that trend. Louisa (73) and Willy (75) reopened ‘t Klaverke this week, eight years after they retired. The local pub under the church tower was immediately full, as our reporter saw from the corner of the bar. “When I suggested to my husband that I rent out the café, he said: ‘Never, I’d rather open it again myself.’”
