Loud support for seller of suicide powder: ‘Be in control of your own death, now!’

A few dozen demonstrators marched on Wednesday morning to show their support for Alex Schot. The 29-year-old Eindhoven resident has to appear in court in Den Bosch this morning because he is suspected of assisted suicide by selling suicide powder. The demonstrators marched in a procession from the station to the court, shouting slogans: “Be in charge of your own death: now, now, now!”

On Wednesday morning, a non-substantive hearing will be held in the case of Schot at the court in Den Bosch. Reason for the sympathizers to gather in time at the station and then go to court with a lot of noise.

“We stand up for our right to organize our lives and the end of our lives as we want, guided by whomever we want,” says Hans Peltenburg. He is spokesperson for the Support Group Dappere Burgers.nl and initiator of the action. “Because I would prefer my partner to accompany me in my last breath instead of a doctor.”

Medium X
Among those present is Wim van Dijk, the psychologist from Den Bosch who also offered the suicide drug, Drug X. He was previously questioned by the police, but the Public Prosecution Service will probably no longer prosecute him.

What may play a role in this is that he is not aware of any cases of people who have died from the drug. According to the Public Prosecution Service, this is the case with Schot. “I have deleted all my emails and Telegram conversations, and I have also forgotten the names of all those people,” says Van Dijk.

Ten suicides
That is different with Scott. The Public Prosecution Service suspects him of helping with ten suicides by selling Drug X. It did not matter to whom he sold the stuff, he simply delivered, the Public Prosecution Service said during an earlier session.

In addition to assisted suicide, Schot is suspected of laundering 90,000 euros and possessing and selling medicines without a license. This includes, among other things, an antiemetic that is necessary to be able to take Drug X.
