Lots of free culture in Berlin today!

By Martina Hafner

On September 3rd, 2023 there will be a huge cultural offer in Berlin, and it will be free of charge! The New National Gallery and the houses at the Kulturforum lure you in for a day out in the country, the Deutsche Oper and the Konzerthaus celebrate their opening festivals with open doors.

There is rarely as much free culture in one day as on September 3, 2023 in Berlin, a huge program, also for children.

From 1 p.m. at Bismarckstraße 35, the Deutsche Oper offers, among other things, an instrument making workshop on the rehearsal stage, a children’s concert “With timpani and trumpet” for kids from the age of four. On the main stage there is a grandiose technology show, public training by the State Ballet, a sing-along concert and much more.

In the Konzerthaus on Gendarmenmarkt, chief conductor Joana Mallwitz starts at 11.30 a.m. with a moderated symphony concert, children can test different sounds in a carousel of instruments, on the outdoor stage on Charlottenstraße you can hear jazz, swing, flamenco and Ukrainian folklore.

Concentrated art can be experienced free of charge from 11 a.m. at the Kulturforum. Here, among other things, the New National Gallery, the Picture Gallery and the Print Room open their doors at the big summer festival, and the houses also provide insights into five partly hidden, otherwise hardly accessible gardens, such as at the Philharmonic.

The Tiergarten’s largest banquet opens at 12 noon on Scharounplatz, and there are also guided tours, workshops, readings, concerts, and in the evening (8:30 p.m.) 2raumwohnung perform in front of the New National Gallery.

Conclusion: a great day for Berlin culture fans!
