Lothar Matthäus: DFB women deserve “maximum recognition”

Record national player Lothar Matthäus praised the German soccer players at the European Championships in England.

“What they have done so far is great and deserves maximum recognition,” wrote the 1990 World Champion in his Sky column. He follows the games and is “a big fan of the DFB women”.

The German selection won their three preliminary round games against Denmark, Spain and Finland and will meet Austria in the quarter-finals on Thursday (9 p.m. / ARD and DAZN) in the London suburb of Brentford.

“The team coached by Martina Voss-Tecklenburg performs well, is likeable and plays really good football. Coach and team seem to be a real unit with a great character and great footballing qualities,” commented the 61-year-old Matthäus. “I hope our team wins the European title and then has a good reason to celebrate.” The final is on July 31 at Wembley Stadium. Germany is the record European champion with eight titles so far.
