The BBC reports that the county agrees to pay Bryant almost 29 million dollars, or a good 27 million euros, as compensation for the actions of the police and firefighters who took photos of Bryant’s body at the accident scene.
Bryant, who was one of the biggest stars in the sports world, and eight other passengers died when the helicopter carrying them crashed into a mountainside in heavy fog. The helicopter was on its way to Bryant Gianna-daughter’s basketball game. 13-year-old Gianna Bryant also died in the accident.
Many of the authorities who arrived first at the scene took and published shocking pictures of the people who died in the accident. The pictures were later presented, for example, in a bar.
Vanessa Bryant sued Los Angeles County over the actions of the authorities.
– January 26, 2020 was Vanessa Bryant’s worst day. The county made it even worse. They sprinkled salt on the open wound and rubbed it, Bryant’s lawyer said at the start of the trial last August.
The amount of damages awarded now ends the legal process, which Bryant describes as long and difficult, but the end result is fair and reasonable.
– This day marks the culmination of Mrs. Bryant’s brave fight against those who took these racy pictures. She fought for her husband, daughter and others who had been treated disrespectfully. We hope that this verdict will ensure that nothing like this is ever seen again, says Bryant’s lawyer.
Kobe Bryant is considered one of the best basketball players of all time. Bryant, who won the NBA championship five times, was selected for the NBA All-Star game 18 times. The two-time Olympic champion was the third best scorer in NBA history when he finished.
