Lorena Wiebes takes stage win and first yellow jersey in Tour de Femmes | Cycling

The first stage was held in the French capital where twelve laps were completed and as expected it ended in a bunch sprint on the Champs-Elysées.

Of course several riders tried to get away and avoid a sprint. The French rider Gladys Verhulst (Le Col-Wahooe) actually takes just under 50 seconds at 10 kilometers before the finish. With 6 kilometers to go, the difference was reduced to 33 seconds. But of course she was overtaken and it turned into a bunch sprint, where Wiebes turned out to be the strongest.

For years, the cyclists were allowed to report one day in the Tour for La Course, the one-day that was held at different locations. But on Sunday it finally happened: the Tour de France Femmes started an eight-day stage race that ends next Sunday on the Vosges col La Planche des Belles Filles.
