Pete Smith is dead. The Lord of the Rings actor died on January 29, 2022 at the age of 63 in Kaitaia, New Zealand. Smith’s son Poumau Papali’i-Smith confirmed to New Zealand magazine Stuff that his father had kidney disease and dementia.
Peter Bruce Smith was born on August 7, 1958 of Māori descent. He acted in at least 17 films and 22 television series and presented various documentaries. His most famous role was in The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, alongside the films The Quiet Earth and The Piano, as an orc. He won a Best Supporting Actor award at the 2006 New Zealand Screen Awards for his role in the drama series The Market.
Smith leaves behind a wife and six children.
