Loose peacock halts train traffic at Meppel

Due to a stray peacock on the track near Meppel, train traffic has come to a standstill for some time. The train driver finally managed to catch the peacock and handed the animal over to the animal ambulance.

The peacock had escaped from Wilhelmina Park and was found by bystanders in a parking lot on Parallelweg. The police were called in to catch the animal, but this attempt came to nothing.

In the meantime, the bird had moved the adventure to the track, after which ProRail was called in to halt train traffic. In the end, it was not the police who caught the peacock, but the train driver. He handed over the peacock to the animal ambulance and the zookeeper of the Wilhelminapark. The animal is now walking around in the old familiar place again.
