UPDATEAntiaircraft systems repulsed Russian airstrikes on Kiev and other places in Ukraine last night, Ukrainian officials reported on Telegram. According to them, the city was bombarded from all sides, by drones, cruise missiles and probably ballistic missiles. “Stay in the shelters,” the mayor of the capital urged.

Debris ended up in the Ukrainian capital’s zoo, Mayor Vitali Klitschko said. Three people were also injured. Several cars caught fire and a large building was damaged. “Stay in shelters,” the mayor calls on Telegram messaging service. According to Klitschko, debris from a drone fell on the Darnytskyi city district in southeastern Kiev.
“In a very short time, a huge number of rockets have been fired at the city. It was an attack of exceptional magnitude,” Serhiy Popko, head of Kiev’s military city administration, told the Telegram messaging app. “According to initial reports, the vast majority of enemy targets in the airspace have been detected and destroyed.”
Four city districts were targeted, the army added. According to the Ukrainian defense, there was a “complex” attack in which projectiles arrived simultaneously from different directions, the army says via Telegram. The attack was exceptional in terms of concentration, it sounds, with a maximum number of missiles in a very short time.
“At least ten explosions”
According to the newspaper ‘The Kyiv Independent’, “at least ten explosions” were heard in the capital in the night from Monday to Tuesday. Eyewitnesses in Kiev told Reuters news agency they heard several explosions that sounded like anti-aircraft systems destroying objects.
Russia attacked the capital the day after the return of President Volodymyr Zelensky. The Ukrainian president traveled to Italy, Germany, France and the United Kingdom. Not only in Kiev, but throughout Ukraine, air raid sirens have been sounding in recent hours. The country has been resisting a Russian invasion for more than fourteen months, including with Western military equipment.
