On Russian state television, commentators have puzzled over why Ukrainians seem to hate Russians so much. Opinions differed. According to political scientist and member of the Russian Council for Inter-Ethnic Relations Bogdan Bezpalko – a notorious spokesman for the Kremlin – it is about a few radicals infecting others and arrogant few who are desperately trying “to be trendy” and to launch a “hype”.

Political scientist and journalist Maxim Yusin kicked the butt when he said that according to him, 80 percent of Ukrainians hate the Russians “with every fiber of their being”.
His colleague Bogdan Bezpalko disagreed and believed that a small number of people are infecting others with their radical ideas. “I would call it dehumanization,” he quoted. “Returning to an animal level. But I don’t think these people are in the majority. They act like radio towers sending signals and infecting others. Those towers need to be turned off and the people must be placed under normal influence.”
Depression
Most people in Ukraine are in a state of “apathy and depression,” he said. “They have had enough of the war. The hatred of the few reaches them and resonates. This information is constantly forced on them.” And about the few who spread the hate: “They do it because they belong to a radical ideology or out of sheer arrogance, to be trendy, by way of hype,” said Bezpalko.
Remarkable: during his speech he received strong opposition from journalist Yanina Lazarevna. “These people are not influenced by a radical minority, but by bombings and air raids in the middle of the night,” she threw back. “Military actions and the fact that they have to constantly ask themselves whether they will make it through the next day or night. Of course they don’t love you.”
What to do? According to director Igor Shishkin of the Institute for Diaspora and Integration, Russian identity in Ukraine must be protected. “There is only one way to do that at the moment: by liquidating Ukraine as quickly as possible,” he says.
Violinist
According to violinist Petr Lundstrem – who is also presented as an expert – something can only be done about it “by physically subjugating Ukraine, spreading our own propaganda there and educating young people”. “We have to do the same thing we did in Chechnya 20 years ago. The people who fight against us now must fight for us in the future. That’s the only way.”
An idea that Yusin – who is also remarkably critical – is dismissed as “wishful thinking”. “It’s time to get our heads out of the clouds,” he replies, which is not well received by the presenter.
