Tensions are high today at the municipal school in Trois-Ponts in the province of Liège. The very unpopular headmistress Claudine Lejeune returned to the school after an absence, but that was not to the liking of some parents. The police had to give the director access to the school.
LOOK. Parents made their displeasure at the return of the headmistress clear by hanging banners and blocking access to the school
“Claudine, stay at home, our school is better off without you,” read a banner at the school gate. One of the parents told RTL Info: “We do not agree to her coming back, that is why we are blocking access.” The police then escorted the director inside.
The director herself had been expelled from the school due to serious problems with students, parents and teachers. But the Council of State canceled the suspension and she returned to work today.
“The contempt, the humiliations, the lies at work, the incompetence. This has all led to a working environment that has become increasingly worse,” explains teacher Nathalie Righi of the municipal primary school in Trois-Ponts. The parents were also very dissatisfied, as were the students. The result was that half of the students transferred to a school in a neighboring village. Several teachers also quit due to burnout. In order to continue classes, the school had to contact the municipal council to recruit ‘teachers’ without experience. As a result, according to Vanessa Lévèque of the parent committee, the students have fallen enormously behind.
“I really don’t feel like going back to work with her,” teacher Righi concludes. She doesn’t know what will happen next.
