An old video has surfaced on social media in which the deceased Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin (62) seems to predict his own death, some internet users believe. In the short fragment, the Russian emphasizes that he would rather die than lie. “I must honestly say that Russia is on the brink of disaster. And if the cogs are not adjusted quickly, the plane will explode in the air,” said Prigozhin. The Wagner boss was killed in a plane crash last week.
The excerpt comes from an interview dated April 29. In the video, Prigozhin tells Russian blogger Semyon Pegov that he believes Russia is on the verge of collapse, specifically because “the defense is gradually kicking out all the truth-tellers who refuse to munch on the senior officers.” “And if the cogs are not adjusted quickly, the plane will explode in the air,” said the Wagner boss.
At the end of June, Prigozhin launched an armed mutiny and advanced towards Moscow with his mercenaries. The uprising was preceded by months of conflict with the Russian army command. Last Wednesday, the Wagner boss was killed after his private jet crashed near Moscow, exactly two months after the failed mutiny.
“Kill me then”
“Today we have reached the boiling point,” Prigozhin says in the video. “Why am I speaking so sincerely now? Because I have no right against the people who will live on in this country. They are now being lied to. You better kill me then, but I’m not going to lie.”
There is now a wave of reactions to the fragment on social media. According to some, the Wagner boss somehow knew he was going to die in a spectacular way. Others claim that Prigozhin is actually still alive and will soon resurface. But various internet users also continue to point the finger at the Kremlin. “You must be stupid if you don’t understand that Putin is behind this,” it sounds.
