Israeli forces announced today that they have discovered tunnels under holiday homes in Gaza used by senior Hamas officials. For example, they found a tunnel under a baby’s crib. In addition, they discovered what they say is the “largest tunnel to date”, close to the border crossing with North Gaza.

Israeli forces raided the offices of a Hamas battalion commander in Khan Younis and the vacation homes of several high-ranking Hamas commanders, including the Palestinian terror group’s leader Yahya Sinwar.

During the operations, the militants say they killed “many terrorists,” including some through tank fire. Israeli forces also managed to uncover about 30 tunnel shafts, hit dozens of anti-tank missile launch sites and observation posts. They seized several weapons used by Hamas militants as well as intelligence material.

“We found weapons and tunnels in vacation homes of senior Hamas officials,” said Tzuri, an Israeli army soldier. “We see a lot of tunnel shafts here, still fighting the enemy, but with operational control over the area.”

In addition, other Israeli soldiers discovered a Hamas tunnel hidden under a baby’s crib in a house in the northern Gaza city of Jabaliya.

In footage published by the IDF, a commander gives a tour of the house and shows where exactly they found the tunnel. “The underground corridor was a strategic Hamas attack tunnel and was destroyed by our combat engineers.”

The Israeli army also shared images of the “largest tunnel to date”, near the border crossing with North Gaza. The newly discovered tunnel network is approximately four kilometers long and in some places even 50 meters deep with a width that allows vehicles to pass through.

“The width of the tunnel indicates that it was intended to be used for vehicular raids against civilians in Gaza’s border communities,” Israel’s northern brigade commander Colonel Haim Cohen said in a video statement.

One of the tunnel shafts was found just 400 meters from the border crossing with North Gaza. In the past, the Erez border crossing was used exclusively for passenger traffic. It is the only land connection between Gaza and Israel. After the Hamas attack on October 7, the border crossing was completely closed.

The tunnel has several branches and junctions, along with pipes, electricity and communication lines, according to the IDF. In some parts of the tunnel, the troops found doors containing explosives, which the IDF said were intended to prevent Israeli forces from entering.
