The case has sparked a political row as Congress accuses the state’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party of failing to protect the dignity of women and girls. Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge is therefore tough on the current Prime Minister: “Modiji travels from place to place to demonstrate the dream of the women’s movement and receive applause for it. But if Modiji and his minister get some time off from election campaigns, perhaps they will finally be able to hear the cries of the women.”
