Snails do not seem the most dangerous animals at first sight, but it is best not to touch the cone snail. A video has been shared on the social medium Reddit of holidaymakers in Egypt grabbing a snail and capturing it on camera. “But if you come across such a snail, you have to be very careful,” says our science expert Martijn Peters. “If it sees prey or feels threatened, it will inject poison with a small harpoon. And that is an enormously complex and deadly poison for which there is no antidote.”
