They had just left on holiday to France, but Leen (32) and Wouter (33) from Leefdaal almost had to go home. On their way to their holiday destination Île de Ré, they encounter a burning truck on the highway. “We could see the smoke from afar, it was a deep black plume of smoke and you even felt the heat,” says Leen. The worst was yet to happen, though. When Leen wants to drive past the burning vehicle, a gigantic bang suddenly follows. The flying debris comes close to hitting their car. Panicking, the couple quickly pulls over to the side of the road. “Fortunately, there was no damage to our car, but after our incident, the emergency services closed the highway completely. They were also dangerously close at the time of the explosion.”
