Footage on social media shows HMS Chiddingfold sailing backwards into HMS Bangor. These are two mine hunters that must protect trading ships in the Middle East. No one was injured in the incident, but there was “some damage,” according to the Navy. According to British media, the collision dates from earlier this week.
According to Division Admiral Edward Ahlgren, it is not entirely clear how the two ships came into contact. “We train our people to the highest possible standards and rigorously monitor safety measures, but unfortunately these types of incidents can still happen.”
A “thorough investigation” into the matter is now underway, Ahlgren assured. “If there are procedures that can avoid such a situation in the future, they will be implemented as soon as possible.”
