The 36th Pramenrace started at 12.00 in Aalsmeer. 160 pramen, boats with a flat bottom, sail a route on the Westeinderplassen and the Ringvaart of Haarlemmermeer. The theme is cartoons. NH Nieuws reported on the traditional race for half an hour at 12.15 pm.
The first Pramen race was held in 1985 and actually started as a joke between some friends. It became more popular and more and more teams joined. Most teams do not go for the speed prize, building a party is much more important to them.
“We don’t go like the Chippendales, but like the Strippendales”, Jeroen told earlier while showing off a shirt with a muscular male torso on it. “Our own body is already letting us down,” he jokes.
