Music2022 was already a great farming year for Metejoor. At the last minute, the artist can add another stunt to his list. Joris Van Rossem (31) enters the Radio2 Top2000 as the highest newcomer on Saturday 31 December. 2022 ends as 2023 promises to be: scary good.
Barely a year and a half ago, the singer quit his job in education, but in the meantime Metejoor has already completed three MIAs, a platinum album and dozens of sold-out concerts. The 2022 trophy cabinet also includes a trophy as one of the most popular Belgian artists on Spotify and the Qmusic award ‘Hit of the year National’ for ‘This is what my mama said’.

On New Year’s Eve there will be a nice price. Metejoor is in the Radio2 Top2000 eight times, which has been broadcast day and night since December 25 and will close at 6 p.m. on Saturday December 31. Those eight times are not a record in themselves, because both Queen and George Michael, for example, account for 20 entries in that year list and Clouseau remains the most popular Flemish artist with no less than 16 songs. But Metejoor is the highest newcomer in the list with ‘1 in a million’, his duet with Babet. Metejoor does not yet know how high the song ends up in the hit list. Even music compilers at Radio2 don’t know that yet either. The listener can still arrange the list differently, because it is still possible to vote for that list until Saturday at 2 p.m. Or at least for the 20 highest places. The quotations of the other 1980 numbers are already fixed.
100,000 voters
After the first voting round of the Top2000, the 20 best-scoring songs were selected. The listeners can now cast their vote again and thus secure the places from 20 to 1. Last year, some 100,000 listeners took part in the poll. Metejoor belongs to the last 20. And because ‘1 in a million’ was not in the list last year, he is the highest newcomer in the list anyway. The Top2000 also has 263 newcomers.
Competitor
The top 20 of the Top2000 this year has a Flemish tint, just like the DNA of organizer Radio2. After all, there are four Flemish hits in that list of 20 best songs. In addition to Metejoor, the listener can also vote for ‘Good morning, tomorrow’ by Nicole and Hugo, ‘Mia’ by Gorki and ‘Let the sun in your heart’ by Willy Sommers. Perhaps the listener would like to pay tribute to Nicole (and Hugo) posthumously and come up with a place of honor for their 1991 song? Although Wily Sommers in particular seems to be the competitor to beat for Metejoor. Last year, Willy was in third place as best Flemish artist. In 2021 it was only preceded by winner ‘Music’ by John Miles and the silver ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ by Queen.

Top year
At the last minute of 2022, Metejoor can therefore pin a nice medal on his vest. And he will be able to continue the line of success in 2023 anyway. The singer is already looking forward to the MIAs, which will take place on January 26. There he has been nominated four times and also for the Hit of the year with ‘This is what my mama said’. In March, Metejoor will start his spring tour through Flanders. Those who do not yet have a ticket for one of the 15 concerts may well be worth the effort, because all but two concerts have been sold out for months. In the spring he will also be seen in ‘Love for the music’, from which he naturally hopes to have a few new hits. After the summer festivals, Metejoor faces a new challenge in the fall and for the first time solo in the Sportpaleis. There are still tickets available for those two concerts on November 3 and 4. 2022 ends punishment, 2023 will be at least as beautiful. Or as Metejoor himself sang this year with Snelle: ‘Kijk Ons Nou’.
