Long-running quarrel ends in stabbing: “She was afraid of him”

The stabbing in which a woman (60) was injured on Sunday in Helmond was preceded by an argument of more than a year. According to local residents, the victim was stabbed with a knife by her upstairs neighbor (33). “I heard screaming and saw her lying on the ground covered in blood. She yelled that she was going to die,” says another neighbor, Abdullah.

It was just after two o’clock on Sunday afternoon when Abdullah heard screaming in the apartment complex on Trompstraat. Nothing new in itself, because the upstairs neighbor has been fighting with his downstairs neighbor for a long time. “The police have been here many times.”

Abdullah went outside to see what was happening again and then saw his neighbor lying on the floor. “She was completely naked, her whole body was covered in blood. She cried that she was going to die.” Abdullah called 911 and put a blanket over her. “She was stabbed about eight times with a knife,” he says shocked.

“She had a feeling something bad was about to happen.”

The man and woman have been at odds with each other for a year and a half. “The upstairs neighbor destroys his downstairs neighbour’s things, he throws butts in her garden and he has already tried to poison her dog,” a local resident sums up. “I spoke to her on Saturday and she said she was very scared. She had a feeling something bad was about to happen. She wanted to leave because of her upstairs neighbor.”

Other residents also paint a different picture. The stabbed woman would have had fights with other neighbors before. “She has already bullied two people away, just terrorized them,” says a family member of a previous resident. “The house is very noisy and she couldn’t stand that. For example, she heard her previous upstairs neighbor snoring and then she started banging against the ceiling.”

“She punctured the tires of a pram.”

The woman would also have previously destroyed a neighbor’s pram. “She had small children and sometimes left her pram in the shared porch. She didn’t want that and that’s why she had punctured the tires.”

The exact cause of Sunday’s violence is not yet known. The upstairs neighbor is stuck and the woman is still in the hospital. This Monday afternoon, the police forensic investigation will be walking around Trompstraat. These specialists carry out extensive research in and near the homes of the victim and the suspect.
