Long jumper Luzolo at World Cup premiere ninth

After the injury of defending champion Malaika Mihambo, Serbian Ivana Vuleta won gold in the long jump at the World Athletics Championships.

The European champion prevailed on Sunday in Budapest with the world annual best of 7.14 m ahead of the American Tara Davis-Woodhall (6.91), bronze went to Alina Rotaru-Kottmann (Romania/6.88).

Maryse Luzolo (Königstein) showed a solid competition, with 6.58 m the 28-year-old finished ninth and missed the final battle of the top eight by five centimeters. Mikaelle Assani, who traveled to Hungary with a season best of 6.91 m, was eliminated in the qualification.

Olympic champion Mihambo won World Cup gold in 2019 and 2022, but tore a muscle fiber at the German championships in Kassel in July. The 29-year-old had hoped to start in Budapest for a short time, but then canceled it out of consideration for the Olympic Games in Paris next year. In addition to Mihambo, the German team in Hungary are missing other top performers due to injuries.
