London Fashion Week: Autumn/Winter 2022 trends

The London Fashion Week catwalks were characterized by a new glamor and elegance that underscored many collections. Hints of formal attire and evening wear were softened by the use of worn materials and a creative mix of allusions, but nonetheless hinted at a return of fashion frivolity.

Trendstop brings FashionUnited readers a peek at the top collections from London Fashion Week Fall Winter 2022-23.

Ahluwalia

The world of film, especially Bollywood, inspired Priya Ahluwalia to create her glamorous, sophisticated yet fun FW22 collection. Crafted from upcycled materials and ethical yarns in traceable, eco-friendly supply chains, the clean-cut garments have retained their conscious character. Nods to women’s sarees and micro silhouettes and men’s relaxed pajama suits combined global cultures with luxury and a touch of nonchalance.

Raf Simons

Post-lockdown, Raf Simons is eschewing the distressed DIY looks of previous seasons in favor of slimmer, more elegant shapes. Stretchy coats and capes, flowing, draped trousers and silky fabrics glided down the runway, paired with shiny nylon, vinyl or rich velvets. Hooded hats, made in bright colors in collaboration with milliner Stephen Jones, emphasized Simons’ slim and clean silhouettes.

Molly Goddard

Molly Goddard, who nostalgically recalled her ’80s London childhood, rekindled the decade’s DIY art aesthetic, which combined vintage ’50s glamor with repurposed army leftovers and old-fashioned, masculine tailoring. The wild combination of pretty, party-ready dresses and oversized, distressed outerwear offered the option of cozy layered looks that were utterly practical and whimsical at the same time.
