The Dutch police have arrested a 19-year-old man from Lommel in Belgium for involvement in a shooting two months ago near Rotterdam. A 23-year-old Schiedammer was shot at the Stationsplein in Schiedam. He suffered a gunshot wound to his leg and was taken to hospital for treatment.

The shooting incident happened on Thursday 1 April early in the evening on the square in front of Schiedam Centrum station. Shortly after the incident, a 32-year-old resident of Delft was arrested. However, he has nothing to do with the incident, police said.

The 19-year-old Belgian was arrested at his home in Schiedam after a tip. Police have not released details of his possible role in the shooting. The suspect will be arraigned on Friday in court, which will determine whether he will remain in prison longer.

It remains unclear for the time being why the Schiedammer was shot on Stationsplein. He is now on the mend, police said. “His situation was not life-threatening.”
