Logical tinkering, uncertain future

In our parliamentary system, a president of the Government has the power to call elections and name the members of his cabinet or renew them as many times as you consider appropriate. A faculty that is valid both for the Spanish Government and for the autonomous governments. Any of these powers, depending on reasons of opportunity, calendar or internal cohesion, can be used to face an adverse climate, to respond to internal dissensions, due to a serious mishap in the management or after a defeat in other elections. If Pedro Sánchez calculated (we will see with what success) that calling general elections was the most skilful response after leaving 28M 400,000 votes and a lot of local power, Pere Aragonès has remodeled the Government after the Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya lost 300,000 in the large capitals and in the industrial belt where the party’s leader, Oriol Junqueras, had placed many hopes of broadening the electoral base of the independence movement. In his case, he had to do it to present himself with “renewed energy”, in the words of President Pere Aragonès, before an electoral call that has not arrived at the most opportune moment.
