Loewe ousted Prada from the top spot

Spanish luxury fashion house Loewe jumped up three places and now tops the list of the world’s most sought-after fashion brands. In the current Lyst Index for the second quarter of 2023, it relegated the Italian luxury label Prada, which previously occupied the top position, to second place.

The ranking of the “hottest” fashion brands and products is published quarterly by the British online fashion search engine Lyst, which uses its own data and analysis of social media activity and internet searches.

top ten

Lyst credits the rise to Loewe’s presentation of its Paula’s Ibiza 2023 collection, the presentation of the 2023 Loewe Foundation Craft Awards in New York, and the creation of bespoke looks for Beyoncé’s “Renaissance” world tour.

In third place was Italian luxury brand Versace, which climbed five spots for the quarter, its highest ranking since the Lyst Index began – likely thanks to stars like Anne Hathaway and Dua Lipa, with whom it has worked.

Versace sold the third in the last quarter, Italian down jacket specialist Moncler. This landed in eighth place in the second quarter of 2023, behind Miu Miu, Bottega Veneta, Valentino and Saint Laurent. Gucci ranked ninth, as in the first quarter, followed by French luxury house Dior, which rose one place to return to the top ten.

top twenty

Louis Vuitton topped the top twenty at number eleven, thanks to the media frenzy surrounding Pharrell Williams’ first collection and the appointment of actress Zendaya as brand ambassador, followed by Dolce & Gabbana, Diesel, Burberry, Jacquemus, Balenciaga, Skims, Nike, Fendi and JW Anderson.

Though Chanel’s very limited digital retail presence excludes the French luxury fashion house from the Lyst Index, it still charted the Met Gala honoring the late designer Karl Lagerfeld, an extravagant cruise show in Los Angeles and an embroidered F1 t-shirt worth $4,500 a strong quarter.

Breakout Brands

This time, Lyst counts the French Maison Goyard among the “breakout brands”, i.e. rather less well-known brands, which were able to record a considerable increase in attention in the quarter. Celebrity fans include rapper A$AP Rocky and actress Brooke Shields.

Italian cashmere specialist Loro Piana, which belongs to luxury group LVMH, saw a 35 percent increase in searches, which Lyst attributes to the Resort 2023 collection and celebrity wearers such as Gigi Hadid and Gwyneth Paltrow. The fashion search engine also named Australian quiet luxury label Posse, which is worn by celebrities such as Sofia Richie, Selena Gomez and Lily Aldridge.

The “hottest” fashion items

Loewe also took the top spot for the hottest fashion items of the quarter with its Anagram tank top, followed by Asics Onitsuka Tiger Mexico 66 sneakers. In third place was Versace’s Maxi Medusa Biggie sunglasses, followed by another Loewe item, the Raffia totebag. New Balance’s Aime Leon Dore sneakers came in fifth, followed by premium denim label Agoldes shorts.

The Alaïa brand, which belongs to the Swiss luxury group Richemont, was able to score with its fishnet flats and landed in seventh place, followed by The Rows City flip flops, Longchamp’s “Le Pliage” bag and a cap from Loro Piana. 40 percent of the most popular fashion items are shoes and 20 percent bags, clothing and accessories such as sunglasses and hats.
