Loeb-Ferrari, agreement to race in the Dtm: first race in Portugal

The nine-time WRC world champion will take part in the first round of the season in Portimao over the weekend from 30 April to 1 May. He will replace Nick Cassidy, engaged in the same weekend in Monte Carlo with Formula E

Now it’s official: Sebastien Loeb will also race in the Dtm at the wheel of a Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo. After the memorable success in Monte Carlo in the WRC and in addition to the commitments in the World Rally Raid and Extreme E, the French champion enriches his season with a new appointment. Eyes on Portimao, Portugal, home to the first round of the DTM over the weekend from 30 April to 1 May. Loeb will replace the New Zealander Nick Cassidy in the AF Corse Alphatauri team, engaged in the same weekend with Formula E in the Principality of Monaco.

The announcement follows the tests conducted a week ago at Spa Francorchamps in Belgium, when the nine-time WRC world champion rode with Ferrari trying to gain confidence. For Sebastien it is yet another challenge of a memorable career. His desire to continually challenge himself knows no bounds: “I’ve always liked to change discipline. Dtm is a famous championship and I immediately took the opportunity to compete in it. It is an exciting challenge because the driving style is completely different ”. Also enthusiastic Gerhard Berger, head of the organization of the competition: “Having the most successful driver of all time in the rally at the season opener in Portimao is really a highlight for our fans. His career successes speak for him, but it will be a difficult challenge even for someone like Loeb ”.

And will Sebastien aim for victory right away? The Frenchman does not hide his enthusiasm, but keeps a low profile: “My goal will be to find a great pace. I will try to use experience to provide guidance to the team on the set up of the car. I can’t wait to get behind the wheel, these cars are a lot of fun ”. After the second place in the Dakar 2022 and the feat at the Monte Carlo Rally, a new challenge for the 48-year-old Alsatian.
