Local CDA factions in De Peel against nitrogen plan | 1Limburg

Ten CDA departments around the Limburg and Brabant Peel call on the parliamentary group of the Christian Democrats not to bear any responsibility for the cabinet’s nitrogen plans.

They also want CDA States factions to make a ‘severe protest’ to the Provincial Executive in both provinces.

‘Not suitable for CDA’
“The provinces must not agree to this ice-cold clearing of our beautiful countryside, which will drive out farmers and citizens. This does not fit with the principles of the CDA,” the CDA departments wrote on Saturday. According to the CDA departments, the cabinet has ‘completely lost its way’ with the plans for the Peel region.

“The plans from The Hague seem to be aimed at driving out the entire agricultural and horticultural sector around the Peel region, just to stimulate raised bogs in the Peel in the long run.” The departments emphasize that ‘even strong advocates for the preservation of the Peel’ are questioning the plans.

Tax money
According to the Christian Democrats, the Peel is saddled with an imposed nitrogen reduction of 95 percent. “For these ridiculous reduction targets, it is proposed to spend 25 billion in taxpayers’ money,” the statement said. According to the CDA, the plans for the Peel are therefore ‘totally unrealistic’.

‘Wasted money’
“The CDA departments around the Brabant and Limburg Peel are of the unanimous opinion that this policy should never be implemented.” It would be money wasted, driving farmers out without actually achieving the goals.

The statement was signed by CDA departments Horst aan de Maas, Peel en Maas, Venray, Nederweert and Leudal. The Brabant CDA departments in Deurne, Asten, Laarbeek, Someren and Gemert-Bakel have also signed the statement.
