Loan extended: Diego Llorente stays at AS Roma – Another Leeds exit after relegation

Collaboration with Mourinho

After being loaned out in the second half of last season, Diego Llorente is staying at AS Roma. As both the Serie A club and the parent club Leeds United announced, the central defender will also appear on loan for the Giallorossi in the coming season. The 29-year-old has made twelve appearances for the Italians so far. After being relegated from the Premier League, Leeds had already left Robin Koch (to Eintracht Frankfurt) and Tyler Roberts (to Birmingham City).

José Mourinho and Llorente know each other from their time together at Real Madrid. On the 38th LaLiga match day 2012/13, the Portuguese star coach helped homegrown Llorente to make his professional debut with the “Royal”. However, after Mourinho’s departure, only two more appearances followed in the next two seasons, so Real and Llorente also parted ways – first on loan and finally in 2017.
