Lloyds Terrace Veendam gets even more face with apartment complex

With the construction of fifty apartments early next year, the Lloyds terrace on the edge of the Veendammer center will get even more face. Acantus builds energy-efficient social rental homes there.

The site where transport company Jonker was located years ago, is sandwiched between the roundabout on Lloydsweg, the station area, the Molenstreek and the Van Stolbergweg. From the N33 you enter Veendam via the Geert Veenhuizenweg.

The development of the area, which is regarded as Veendam’s calling card, got off to a slow start. The municipality of Veendam had ambitious plans. In addition to an outpatient clinic, care hotel and care apartments, there should be restaurants and a casino. Many of those plans have fallen in recent years. The Lloyds Terrace remained derelict for a long time.

What did come is a health center for primary and medical specialist care, right next to the bus station, where around a hundred people work. It opened in March 2020.

One- and two-person households

The first homes were built this year. Vastgoed Company built thirteen terraced houses there. The site will be further developed early next year. The complex with fifty social rental homes that Acantus has built there is intended for one and two-person households. The demand for such accommodation, especially among young people, is high. Rottinghuis’ Aannemingsbedrijf from Groningen is developing and building the complex, the design is by VMEZ Architecten from Drachten.
