Already at one Interview with Vanity Fair in 2022, Lizzo professed to be a huge Radiohead fan – ever since she was a child, she couldn’t get enough of Thom Yorke’s band. Although she was listening to radio rap back then, which was particularly popular among her classmates, she also celebrated one or the other rock album at home. Her musical tastes, which seemed so different from those of her peers, always made her feel a little separate from her fellow human beings – very similar to what Radiohead’s “Creep” expresses in terms of content.

Lizzo kept his love for rock music a secret for a long time

As Lizzo explained, “They all heard what was on the radio: Usher, Destiny’s Child, Ludacris. And I liked Radiohead’s OK COMPUTER. I kept it a secret even when I was in a rock band because I didn’t want to be made fun of – they called me “White girl”. […] I really wanted to be accepted. It hurt not fitting in anywhere.”

Lizzo is now a star celebrated around the world and doesn’t have to curry favor with anyone. In July 2022 her second album SPECIAL was released and she graced the title of our Musikexpress issue 07/2022. Her single “About Damn Time” won her a Grammy 2023, while German producer Purple Disco Machine received a Grammy for his remix of that song. Most recently, she covered Gramm winners Sam Smith and Kim Petras’ “Unholy” during a performance on British television.
