Liz Truss and Rishi Sunak remain in race to succeed Boris Johnson as British Prime Minister | Abroad

Sunak is the former finance minister, Liz Truss is the current foreign minister. They won the final round of voting among deputies from the ruling Conservative Party. Sunak received 137 votes, Truss 113.

In the coming period, all members of the party will ultimately decide who will replace Johnson as party leader, and thereby automatically become head of government.

Former Defense Secretary Penny Mordaunt was the last to drop out of the race. She got the fewest Conservative MPs behind her with 105. In recent days, other candidates have also dropped out in previous voting rounds.

The Tories want to announce who will succeed Boris Johnson on September 5. The controversial prime minister is stepping down after three years because members of his government resigned en masse out of dissatisfaction with his leadership, which was burdened by all kinds of scandals.
