The city center of Zaandam was today the stage for living statues during the Dutch Championship Living Statues. Dozens of participants came from all over the Netherlands to the Bullekerk in Zaandam to transform themselves into a statue for a few hours. “You’re just being crazy all day long, you don’t have to be yourself,” says one of the statues.
What makes imitating a statue so much fun? “Entertaining people is very different from the daily grind,” one of the living statues tells NH. “Enjoying people is what makes it all fun,” adds another participant.
From 1 pm the statues could be admired along the walking route from the Bullekerk to the end of the Westeinde. The route was busy and the first living statues impressed the visitors. “It’s really beautiful, really beautiful.”
Champions
Both young and old participants come to the event. There is also a Kids Statues championship for children
Earlier in Alkmaar the champion exhibition held, where only champions of previous Living Statues championships participated.
