Liverpool’s goalkeeping coach advises Karius to move immediately

Liverpool (AP) – Goalkeeping coach John Achterberg from Liverpool FC has advised the German keeper Loris Karius to use his talent and leave the Premier League club if possible during this transfer phase.

“It doesn’t help anyone to sit around for another six months without the feeling that you are really fighting for something,” Achterberg told the online magazine “The Athletic”. “That won’t improve him. He has to use his quality to make a career now. Loris has a lot of good qualities.”

Karius’ contract in Liverpool runs until the summer. Recently, there was speculation that the 28-year-old would move to Germany. SpVgg Greuther Fürth is considered a possible interested party. “In the end it is up to him, his agent and the club to find a solution,” said Achterberg. “Hopefully there will be another this month. If not, he will train with us until the end of his contract.”

Karius had lost his regular place with the Reds in the 2018/19 season. A few months earlier he had made two serious mistakes in the Champions League final against Real Madrid, which ultimately caused Liverpool to lose the final 3-1. From 2018 to 2020, Karius played on loan for Besiktas Istanbul. Last season, the former keeper of FSV Mainz 05 was loaned to Union Berlin. There he could not assert himself as number one in goal.
