Liverpool won football’s English League Cup after a real extra-time thriller. In the final played at Wembley, Chelsea lost 1–0.
The winner of the match was Virgil van Dijk, who headed the ball in from a corner kick in the 118th minute.
Van Dijk scored a goal in the match at the 60th minute, but the shot was disallowed for offside.
Finnish colors were also seen in the evening’s lineups. 19-year-old midfielder Jimi Tauriainen made it to the Chelsea representative team’s bench for the first time in his career.
However, playing time was not blessed.
Tauriainen moved to the Chelsea organization in 2020 from HJK. He has played in the U18 and U21 teams of the London club.
Both teams had one goal disallowed after a Var check. Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling’s 33rd minute goal preceded by Nicolas Jackson scarcely scarcer offside.
The work of the referees also spoke volumes in the situation where Chelsea’s Moises Caicedo rudely stepped on Ryan Gravenberch’s ankle. Gravenberch had to leave the field in the 28th minute, and Caicedo didn’t even get a warning.
