Youngest Premier League debutant
Liverpool have renewed Harvey Elliott’s contract. As the Reds announced on Thursday, the 19-year-old winger has made a “long-term” commitment to the Anfield Road club. According to consistent media reports, the England U21 international’s working paper now runs until 2027, one more year than previously agreed. Elliott had only extended at the LFC a good 13 months ago.
The new contract, which also includes a pay rise, is in line with Liverpool’s club policy of rewarding improvements and progress with appropriate conditions, as was the case with Diogo Jota (25) earlier this month. Elliott, who at 16 years and one month is the youngest Premier League debut in league history, follows Jota, Joe Gomez (25) and top scorer Mohamed Salah (30) with his tie to Liverpool.
“It’s always nice to know I’ll be here for many years to come, which is always a great thing as it’s my childhood club and there’s nothing in the world that makes me happier and more excited than that,” he said Elliott. “It was a big roller coaster ride for me and my family and also for the club. So much has happened in the years that I’ve been here. We’ve won so much already and hopefully we can win a lot more. Like I said, knowing that I’ll be back for a long time is always a wonderful feeling for me and my family. As a Liverpool fan, there is no better place in the world than to play for Liverpool, put on the shirt and play for the team and the fans.”
Elliott joined Liverpool in 2019 from the Fulham youth team and has since made 22 professional appearances for the Reds. In 2020/21 he was loaned to where he quickly established himself as a regular player. Back at his home club, a serious ankle injury kept him out of action for a long time, but Elliott fought back, most recently coming on as a substitute in both the Community Shield and the Premier League opener last weekend.
