At Anfield, trainer Frank Lampard, who had to do without the injured midfielder Donny van de Beek, opted for a withdrawn style of play. In the Premier League, Chelsea did well in the battle for Champions League qualification for next season. The Blues won 1-0 against West Ham United.

Chelsea will almost certainly play in the Champions League again next season. The Londoners secured third place in the Premier League on Sunday by beating West Ham United 1-0.
Substitute Christian Pulisic scored the goal in the 90th minute. The American was free in the penalty area and was able to slide the ball behind keeper Lukasz Fabianski after a cross from the left by Marcos Alonso.

There was great joy at Chelsea, which just before missed a great opportunity to take the lead. Jorginho shot in a penalty far too softly. Chelsea were awarded the penalty after a foul by Craig Dawson, who put down the broken Romelu Lukaku and was sent off with a red card.
Chelsea have 65 points after 32 games and are therefore third. The lead on number five Tottenham Hotspur is 7 points. Chelsea played one game less. The first four clubs in England qualify for the Champions League.

Wout Weghorst achieved an important victory with Burnley in the battle against relegation. The Czech Matej Vydra scored the only goal after halftime in the home game against Wolverhampton Wanderers: 1-0. Weghorst played the entire game. Burnley has now passed Everton and is 17th.

Napoli has lost points again in Serie A. The team of trainer Luciano Spalletti went down at Empoli: 3-2. Empoli scored all the goals in the last 10 minutes to clear a 2-0 deficit.
Napoli scored 1 point from the last three matches and seems to be able to forget the first national title since 1990. Leader Internazionale has 5 points more and also played one game less.
Dries Mertens gave Napoli the lead shortly before half-time. For the Belgian former PSV player, it meant his ninth goal this season in the competition. In the previous two seasons, Mertens scored nine goals each time.
