Liverpool legend before moving to the desert

Reunion in Saudi Arabia: Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is apparently about to move to first division side Al Ettifaq – and thus also before working again with his former team-mate Steven Gerrard.

As the portal “The Athletic” reported on Wednesday, the English football international will sign a contract with the club coached by Liverpool icon Gerrard with a salary of 700,000 pounds (around 808,000 euros) per week.

In return, team manager Jürgen Klopp’s team is to receive £12 million (around 13.8 million euros) for Henderson. The 33-year-old joined Anfield from Sunderland AFC in 2011 and took over as captain from Gerrard four years later. In 2019, Henderson led Liverpool to the Champions League title, and the following year they secured the English championship title.

After the signings of ex-Leipziger Dominik Szoboszlai and Argentine world champion Alexis Mac Allister, the competition in Liverpool’s midfield is fierce. Henderson was no longer in the English squad for the Reds’ friendly on Wednesday at Karlsruher SC (4-2).

A move to Al Ettifaq, who has been coached by Gerrard since earlier this month, would be the next high-profile signing for the Saudi Arabian league.
