Whereabouts beyond 2024?
Contrary to what he indicated at the beginning of March, Jürgen Klopp may remain Liverpool FC coach beyond 2024. As several media reports, the Premier League club wants to start contract talks with the 54-year-old. Originally, the former Dortmund champion coach had announced his departure for 2024 after nine successful years in Liverpool. Now there are apparently signals from Klopp that he can still imagine a longer engagement.
Mike Gordon, President of the American club owner Fenway Sports Group, traveled to the Champions League semi-final first leg against Villarreal (2-0) on Wednesday. The businessman had already negotiated the last contract with Klopp in 2019. Mark Kosicke, the coach’s advisor, was also in the stands during the game against the Spaniards.

Klopp has been the Reds manager since 2015. During this time he has led the club back to the top of Europe. In 2019 he won the Champions League with Liverpool, in 2020 the first championship in 30 years. This year even the historic title four-pack beckons. Liverpool have already won the League Cup, have reached the final against Chelsea and coach Thomas Tuchel in the FA Cup and are just a point behind their long-time rivals Manchester City in the Premier League.
Klopp longer than 2024 at Liverpool? Lijnders and Krawietz influence plans
A final decision as to whether Klopp will stay with Liverpool depends, according to the times also from the continued employment of his valued assistants Pepijn Lijnders and Peter Krawietz. The head coach, who has been exhausted in the meantime, has been back with vigor since last summer and is said to be the driving force behind the top club striving for the quadruple triumph.
“The plan at the moment is for me to do it until 2024, and then it will be: thank you very much,” said Klopp almost two months ago. “I love what I do. But I’ve said it a few times: there has to be something else in the world than just thinking about very talented, good-looking and fantastically nice footballers.”
