Liverpool FC: Jürgen Klopp on upheaval and praise for Arsenal FC

Praise for Arteta’s arsenal

“It is clear that players will leave. It was announced and if we want to be where we have been for the last five years, then we need quality access,” said defender Virgil van Dijk (31) in mid-March about the necessary upheaval at Liverpool FC. Before the Premier League top game against Arsenal (Sunday, 5.30 p.m.), coach Jürgen Klopp spoke approvingly about the upcoming transfer period – and gave a dig at the critics in the (social) media: “Whatever we do in this Doing summer won’t be enough for some people. But with smart transfers we will improve, definitely.”

The departure of Reds striker Roberto Firmino (31) after his contract has expired is already certain, as are Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain (29), Naby Keïta (28) and James Milner (37). In addition, Arthur Melo (26) is on loan from Juventus until the end of the season – making a total of four midfielders who could leave the club. This is still open for Milner, the other departures are considered relatively safe.

Accordingly, many midfielders at Liverpool are traded in the TM rumor mill: Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham (19) has long been considered a major transfer target, but it is not yet clear which European Cup rank the Reds will achieve – or as the team currently in eighth place, if it is at all will be enough for one. Without the Champions League, other interested parties such as Real Madrid should have better cards for a transfer of the third most valuable player in the world.

However, Liverpool is a favorite for Mason Mount (24), who has fewer game shares than usual at Chelsea this year and is likely to be sold in view of his contract expiring in 2024. Other candidates whose transfers are considered realistic in the English media are Fulham’s João Palhinha (27) and Frankfurt’s Jesper Lindstrom (23). Defender Evan Ndicka (23) could also move to Anfield on a free transfer from Eintracht. Klopp explained: “I’m not a worse coach, the players are not worse, we just have to make smart changes next year.”

Liverpool FC’s Jurgen Klopp praises Arsenal FC and Mikel Arteta

Klopp was full of praise for upcoming opponents and coach Mikel Arteta – an example of what Liverpool need now? “Mikel has been building this team for a number of years now and the results are impressive. The way they play is fun to watch to be honest it’s super lively, really good football, top players on the pitch, good match plans. That’s good. That’s not exactly what can be said about us at the moment, it shows how the situation is. But at least we can mention that we’re playing at Anfield again. So we’re at home and we have to show reaction after reaction – we have to – and improve. We’ll definitely try that on Sunday,” said Klopp.

The Liverpool coach can probably fall back on midfield director Thiago (31), who had been out for weeks due to a hip flexor injury. Luis Díaz (26) will soon be able to intervene again after recovering from a knee injury, but not yet against Arsenal: “Luis and Thiago are training normally. The plan with Luis is that he will be 100 percent available for Leeds (April 17; editor’s note). It’s looking good, everything’s looking good, but it’s been a long injury and we have to be careful. It’s a little different with Thiago, he wasn’t gone that long. He’s trained with the team three or four times and could be available but we’ll have to see how he feels today.”

The season is for a bum, it’s all about damage limitation now.
Klopp’s problem is that, despite poor performance, he always brings the same players because there are no alternatives.
TAA plays scrap, VVD, Fabinho, Thiago, Gomez, Matip, etc. too. Some always play and others are exchanged for an alternative whistle at most.
A lot has to change in the squad, especially in terms of injury susceptibility and attitude. When I see TA’s facial expressions…
