Liverpool fans cause trouble at national anthem

Before the Liverpool FC game against Brentford FC, the English national anthem is also played on the legendary Anfield Road. But “God Save The King” sing here on the day of King Charles III’s coronation. as expected, not all of them. On the contrary. The anthem is literally lost in the numerous whistles and boos.

Background: Liverpool is only too happy to distinguish itself from the rest of the island due to its uniqueness. A regular sight in Liverpool’s football temple: a flag with the inscription “Scouse not English”. Scouse is the dialect spoken in the north-west English working capital.

In general, the “Liverpudlians” have been fed up with monarchy and the (conservative) political establishment for decades. To put it mildly, one is only peripherally interested in the royals.

Already in the 1-0 win against Fulham FC on Wednesday there were chants about the upcoming coronation of King Charles III. the round of Anfield.

Even today, the fans in the stadium roared with one voice when the anthem “You’ll Never Walk Alone” rattled out of the loudspeakers.

But no matter how most people in Liverpool may have been about the coronation ceremony, the king himself will not care about the whistles. The 74-year-old is a Burnley fan. Liverpool is not on his football agenda.
