First of all, Frankfurt celebrated a dream start. But shortly afterwards Liverpool turned up the heat – and gave the Bundesliga club one goal after another.

But of all people, ex-Frankfurt player Hugo Ekitiké brought the “Reds” back into the game (35th). Captain Virgil van Dijk (39th), Ibrahima Konaté (44th), Cody Gakpo (66th) and Dominik Szoboszlai (70th) then scored. Germany international Florian Wirtz scored twice and collected his first points scorer for Liverpool.

Liverpool ended its series of defeats with an exclamation mark; team manager Arne Slot’s team had previously suffered four defeats in a row for the first time since 2014. In the premier class, LFC has two wins, Eintracht still has one win from three games.

Toppmöller changed in goal as announced. Michael Zetterer moved between the posts for Kauã Santos, who had been weak for weeks. The Eintracht coach said Santos should take another “step backwards”. The first huge test awaited Zetterer.

In front of national coach Julian Nagelsmann, Slot offered a lot of offensive power with Wirtz, Ekitiké and Alexander Isak. A total of six former Bundesliga professionals were in the starting line-up, while Mohamed Salah initially sat on the bench.

The focus was primarily on Wirtz, who has been unlucky since his move to Liverpool – at least in terms of earnings. Slot defended him before the game. “Florian had a good start at Liverpool, if you just look at goals and assists you might come to a different opinion,” he said on DAZN: “But that’s not my opinion.”

Liverpool tried to get to grips with Eintracht, but the Frankfurt team remained stable at first – and struck coldly at the front. After Wirtz lost the ball to Nathaniel Brown on offense, Frankfurt switched gears excellently, and in the end Kristensen, who had moved up, thundered the ball over the inside post into the goal.
